Many people come from many different places to end up at the long trek that is Techo Caves. If you haven't completed the Temple of Roo, I advise you to do so--the benefits are worthwhile. If you haven't, and are moving along anyway, I'll assume you're starting at Swamp Edge City.

Starting there, head south and around anything that gets in your way (Temple of Roo) untill you exit the desert and arrive in front of several mountains.

Level 30+

If you're any lower than this, you can probably get away with going here--but be forewarned. You'll likely have to train longer here than another would. I personally suggest level 33. Moving along.

Techo Caves - Cave 1

When you first enter the cave, you'll notice a strange jetsam at the entrance. He makes armor! Goodie! I honestly have never gotten anything but the Robe of Protection from him, simply because it tends to take me 5 times longer to find the items for it. (It seems as though the enemies are more scattered around that hold pieces for the other one) If you do want it, fight the dervish enemies untill they drop it. If not, then fight the drakonids in this cave, and possibly the next cave. They all drop assorted parts. (Yummy!)

Now, I tend to head west from Irgo then south southwest to the exit, hunting all the way. You build levels, and possibly have all the ingredients you need, if you're lucky. Whenever you get the ingredients, head back, and don't worry; this place is meant to consume a large chunk of your time.

To make your life a thousand times easier later, we should first head to Sunny Town. That is, of course, if you completed the Jungle Ruins and received a nice rusty thingy there. To head there, simply take the entrance directly south of where you just exited. If you'd rather skip this, head down to Techo Cave 3. (Take the other cave choice instead to get there.)

Techo Caves 2

This is a short, simple cave. Hunt, and make your way south, trying to keep the puddle to your left. Continue south untill you arrive at the exit.

Techo Caves 4

Ah, the infamous cave. You may want to stop hunting here, and try sneaking, as the enemies here are probably going to wear you down quickly. Head south from the entrance, and continue south untill you can't anymore. Then head west as far as possible. Now, if you'd like to see the evil, evil lake that is the locked lake, head north and stare, wondering what it is. If not, head south and exit. This will take you to Sunny Town.

Sunny Town

Just talk to the npc here, and let that rusty thing shine! Learn all you'd like to know, (as well as a little information about that blasted lake) before heading back. Yes, you must head back through Caves 4 and 2, but trust me--the trek is well worth it for later purposes. Sneak north, then east then north in Cave four, and switch back to hunting for Cave 2. Head north and exit Cave 2, it's time to get back on track. Head east to the remaining Cave entrance, and enter.

Techo Caves 3

This is quite the monster of a cave here! Long, with routes that lead where you didn't think they would. But fear not, for you have me! ...or a map from this site. Whatever.

First head east and around the lake, (Hopefully hunting, you'll need the levels more and more in a bit) then south, as far south as you can go, then head east. Once you go east for a while, you *should* arrive at an opening with a big giant puddle hugging the wall. If so, cool. Head south, then east some more. You'll eventually make it to the exit. Now, before you leave, consider training--you'll probably be in serious need of it in a moment.

Now, we see two more cave choices! That's right, more side quest joys! Yay! Head to the western cave first, as the armor and weapons you get from this quest are priceless. If you prefer not, and want to die a horrible death, head to the other entrance and skip to Techo Cave 7.

Techo Cave 6

The enemies get harder and harder and here, so you may want to train. (I say this a lot as it's more or less the past time of that white lupe, it seems.)

From the entrance, head east south then west. No possible way to get lost doing that. Sort of. Head west at the first possible moment. There we go. Now, continue west untill blocked, and then head north and enter the gray castle-like area. Enemies are about to make a big jump in strangeth here, and I advice at the bare minimum to be level 36 before going on. Head south untill you reach the stairs, then exit.

Why, look! A little castle. You should now what to do. Enter it, and be prepared for the lovely...

Mountain Fortress

Nestled safely behind the Techo caves, this fort is home to 5, coun 'em, 5 mini-bosses. Fear not, though, for I am your guide! Some people don't consider this place as part of the Techo caves, but I do! So I'm adding it in.

The enemies here are pretty tough at lower leves, (36-38) but get incredibly easier once you rise above that. Train here or back in Cave 6 untill the enemies are no longer much of a thrat, and head south.

*HUGE note* -The enemies that you fight in the halls will drop your greatest armor, and it is advised you get this before you leave. If you're lucky, you'll get it in your first fight! If not, be prepared for a wait.-

Now, where you go from here is up to you. Personally, I cream all these miserable mini-bosses for the exp. I was at 40 or so before I defeated the Guardian of Life Magic. Now, I'll assume you're at the entrance each time for these directions.

  • Ice Guardian- Head south untill you can't anymore, then west. There he is! Melt 'em.
  • Life Guardian- From the entrance, head south until the second entrance east and enter the grassy lands. From the Ice Guardian, head north till you see the first one. I hate the enemies here, but I used them to train up to level 43, so you may want to as well, if you like. Head south when you're ready, untill you meet Mr. Life, and cream him. He heals, unlike the others, which makes him annoying--but he's still a piece of cake. Pound away.
  • Fire Guardian- From the entrance, head south untill you see the second entrance to the west, and take it. From the Life Guardian, head west. Head south till you see the strange thing, then proceed in whacking the wimp.
  • Spectral Guardian-Take the first east entrance you see and head east untill the second chance to head south. Do so, and continue south till you meet him. Crazy lookin', no?
  • Shock Guardian-Take the first west entrance you see, and head around the chairs and table to the south side of the room. You should see him right there. Bwahaha.

That is the Mountain Fortress. Before you leave, try to be around levels 43-44 Feel free to head to the north exit (In case you forgot where it is by now) and leave.

Make your way through Cave 6, simply taking reverse directions from before. (Feel excited! You're almost done!)

Back at the cave selection plain, (Where you first entered Cave 6) head to the southeast cave and enter. Your last cave is here!

Techo Cave-7

Kind of long, kind of not. Simple to navigate. Simply head south, untill you absolutely have to go east. Then do so and do not head north. Continue east intill you must head south again, and soon you shall be at the exit! Voila!

You've probably gained 8-12 levels here, lost a few hours of your life, but congratulations! You've beat the Caves. All that's left is a quick visit to a town, then the final fortress. Well done.

(For my choice of skills at this point in time, I had...)

  • Shock-complete. That's 40 skill points. That thing saves me so much...
  • Spectral-2 for all. I love the skills there.
  • Others-none. All you need is those two, I think :D. It beat Normal and Evil for me, anyway!
  • Weapon-Life
