heres some advice about neofriends

Neofriends really are something that a lot of Neopians want, however many people don't know how to go around getting some or even one! But what is a Neofriend? And what is that Neofriends list? A Neofriend is basically a simple term for your friends on Neopets and the list is a page where you can add people who are your friends although just because you're not on someone's Neofriends list doesn't mean that you're not their friend; some people choose not to use the list at all.

How not to go about getting Neofriends
There are a few huge no no's when it comes to trying to get a few usernames on your neofriends list, here are a few of them and they really make complete sense when you think about it:
1. Don't just randomly add usernames that you see around the site
2. Don't request to be someone's neofriend without talking to them either over neomail or on the Neopets chat boards first
3. Make sure the person wants to be Neofriends too

How to go about making Neofriends
First thing is to meet some people. The Chat boards are ok for this but all in all I'd recommend finding yourself a reasonable sized guild (at least 25 members) with active members. Join the guild, post saying hi, a bit about yourself and that you'd like to make some new friends whom you can talk to and see who talks to you.
If all goes well move the conversation to neomail and perhaps ask the person if they'd like to be your Neofriend, if they say "yes" go to the
Neofriends page and requests to be their Neofriend.

After you've aquired some of those elusive Neofriends
After you've met some people and made some friends keep chatting to them. If a conversation dies away, start a new one and make sure that you keep in touch. From my own personal experience there's nothing worse that accepting people as your Neofriend and then finding that they never talk to you again...

I hope this helps you out!

here are lots of scams to watch out for around neopets

In the world of Neopets there are numerous evil forces that you can come across that will steal your items and neopoints. Unfortunately, at times you have to also be wary of the other players, they can scam neopoints and items from you, give you bad ideas and at times they can annoy you to bits ...most people are very nice and helpful there is always a few exceptions.

Scams go on everywhere not just on the Neopets site. Here are some scams to look out for. I know a lot of them seem really obvious when you read about them but people including myself get caught by them everyday. Simply because for nothing were promised something and a BIG something at that.

These scams are compiled from all over the place, thanks maryljr for the use of the info on her lookup, thanks wildecherry for your page: Neopets Common Trading Post Scams and the_fuzzle_faerie for your shop Gallery of Common Scam Items. It was all really helpful in re-compiling this page.

1. Trading Post Scams

  • Placing items for trade (rare/expensive ones) and then after you've arranged a price and bid, refuse the offer and ask for the offer to be made again but instead of having 8 Bottled Faeries there are a reduced number... always re-check the lot is the same.
  • Passing an item such as a "Raw Potato" off for something that looks very similar such as a "Battle Potato", there are lots of items like this and one's rare and expensive while the other is common and cheap
  • Offering to trade an item after something is bought from the shop, everything must be in the trade before you trade.

    2. Item Scams

  • Common ones are to promise that a Starberry will turn your pet Starry if you feed it to your pet.
  • A promise that Fish Eggs will turn into the very valuable Fish Negg...
  • Also, the scam where an item (such as a Darigan Paint Brush) appears in a shop but is actually something like a Palm Fan has been spotted again so be careful and checked the dialogue box that pops up

    3. The "I've been scammed" scam

  • People often neomail those who look "rich" and tell them a sob story about how they've been scammed and used to have so many thousands of neopoints. They will ask for np and items to help them get started again - don't give them.

    4. Selling Accounts

  • It is quite common that people will advertise accounts for sale. These accounts often, but not always, have rare items in the trades or shops for you to see and painted pets. You're asked to pay a large sum or exchange many rare/expensive items for the account - don't, you won't receive the account in return.

    5. "Button-Hold-Down" Scams

  • You will not get anything special by holding a key on your keyboard or a button on your mouse down for any period of time.
  • You will not get anything for pressing keys in any special order anywhere on the Neopets site.

    6. Secrets

  • There are no secrets to making millions of NP, just work hard
  • The Hidden Tower is in Faerie City, Faerieland. Move your mouse around to the left of the castle in the middle, (under the cloud with three small towers) until you move over an unmarked but linked area, this is the Hidden Tower link.
  • Don't pay anything to be told a secret

    7. Neomails and Chain neomails

  • Under no circumstances will you receive anything for sending a message about someone with a woe begone story to all your neofriends, you will just slow the neopets site down
  • If someone neomails you about "secrets" "special passwords" or saying that they are the Neopets team or work for Neopets, simply ignore it

    8. Non-existant/Restricted Area Scams

  • There are no special places on the Neopets site, in the past when a new world has come out Neopets has made it so to gain access you need to sign up with a sponsor but this is not the case with any of the current worlds.
  • If you need a password to get to a special area on the Neopets site it will either be given to you as a code after you buy Neopets merchandise or after you sign-up with a Neopets sponsor.

    9. Offsite/Website Scams & Fake Login Screen

  • There are no glitches or weaknesses in the Neopets coding, no one has found any and any website claiming to have done so is a scam. Enterring your details on one of these pages simply gives the person access to your account.
  • If the URL of a page does not begin with "http://www.neopets.com/" then the login screen is a fake one designed to obtain your password

    10. "Bait & Switch" Scam

  • This scam is done using two items that look very similar or look exactly the same such as a Faerie Paint Brush and a Faerie Paint Brush Plushie or a Green Lupe Plushie and a Magical Green Lupe Plushie. And you are duped into thinking you are getting the rare one, so watch out!

    11. Change your email Scam

  • Someone will ask you, either over neomail, chat or another means to change your email address. Do not do this it will allow the person to gain access to your account via the lost password function.

    12. Shop Scams

  • Items in a shop may link to scam pages or fake login pages - check the URL
  • You may be promised an expensive item for buying an expensive Palm Fan
  • You may be tempted by shop contests, some are real but play it safe

    13. Claiming to be Neopets Staff

  • The Neopets staff NEVER contact you over neomail, except occasionally an account related to Beauty Contest entries that haven't been accepted for some reason so don't fall for this
  • The Neopets team does not need any of your account information, they already have it in a huge database

    14. Japanese Font/Unreadable Font Scams

  • You may be duped into thinking an item is something rare, if you're not 100% sure about what an item is and cannot read the name and or description of the item do not buy it.

    15. "Do You Have This Item?" Scam

  • If someone asks you whether you have an item they are:
    a) wanting to buy the item (this is ok)
    b) wanting to see if you have anything good and whether they should bother scamming you (not ok)
In both cases just say something like "None of your business, everything that I want to sell is either in my shop, in my trades or in the auctions!"

    16. False Inflation Scams

  • To avoid inflation type scams do not buy an item just because someone claims that yesterday it was only a few hundred neopoints but today it is thousands. If an item is retired it is often mentioned in the New Features section of the Neopets site.

    17. Lifetime Membership Scams

  • There are no special or secret groups for you to become a member of
  • You do not need to pay to become a member of a guild

    18. Accounts

  • Do not share accounts
  • Do not give your password out, people will be able to access your account
  • Do not change your email address, people will be able to access your account via the lost password function
  • Don't share accounts, even the best of friends get jealous and steal
  • Never let someone 'babysit' or 'account sit' for you

REMEMBER: Never give your password out to anyone, I know people who have had stuff taken from their accounts by their best friends and brothers/sisters.
